What does the $113 Complete Cotswolds price include?

The minibus from South Kensington, a driver-guide, and stops at Burford, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, in a group of 16 or fewer.

There are no paid entries on the route, so the ticket covers everything on the itinerary. The day runs about nine and a half hours: check in at 8:15am at 44 Harrington Road, depart by 8:25am, and return to the same spot in the early evening. The guide gives commentary on the drive and tips at each stop.

What costs extra on the day?

Lunch, drinks and snacks, tips for the guide, and anything you choose to visit on your own time.

Lunch is bought in Bourton-on-the-Water, where you have 90 minutes; there are pubs, cafes, tea rooms and takeaways around the green. Public toilets in the villages may charge, and guests report 50p is typical, so carry coins. Paid sights such as Bourton's Model Village are optional.

Why is the small-group tour not the cheapest?

Because 16 seats cost more per head than a 50-seat coach, and the smaller vehicle reaches four villages instead of two or three.

The cheapest days, around $106, use full-size coaches from Victoria or Gloucester Road and usually split the day between two villages and Oxford. The small-group premium buys a driver-guide who knows every guest, faster stops, and access to lanes and village centres where coaches are restricted. Bibury, for example, has removed its coach bays from the village centre.

Is a private Cotswolds tour worth the money?

For a family or group of four or more, often yes: about $774 per group works out near $194 each for four people, with hotel pickup and your own pace.

The private tour visits the same four villages with about an hour in each and collects you from your address. For two people it costs more than three times the small-group price, so it is best for groups, families with under-7s (who cannot join the Complete Cotswolds tour), or anyone with limited mobility who needs door-to-door transport.

Do children pay less?

Not on the Complete Cotswolds tour: it has one price for everyone aged 7 and over, and under-7s cannot join.

Some other tours on Viator discount children or accept younger ones: Rabbie's takes children from age 5, and the private tour can carry infant seats. Check the age rules on each listing before you book.

Is the train cheaper than a tour?

It can be: advance train fares from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh start at about GBP 14, but you then need local buses, and the villages on the tour are hard to link in one day without a car.

Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are on the 801 bus from Moreton; Bibury and Burford are much harder. See the Cotswolds from London by train for the full plan.

How far ahead should you book?

One to two weeks ahead in spring and summer, when small-group departures fill; a few days is often enough in winter.

Because every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before, booking early costs nothing if your plans change. Weekday departures are quieter in the villages than weekends.
